Introduction to New Atlanta Braves Writer: Kale Diestel

Hey everyone! My name is Kale Diestel and I am from Brunswick, Georgia, about 30 minutes from the Georgia-Florida line. I am currently attending the University of Georgia, Majoring in Accounting and with a Minor in Sports Management. I attended high school at Glynn Academy, the sixth-oldest public high school in the United States. Glynn Academy has produced some amazing athletes such as Kwame Brown, Adam Wainwright, Willie McClendon, and Davis Love III, so I am no stranger to any sport. My interests range from golf to football, but nothing can top my first love… baseball.

I started playing baseball and football when I was six and continued to play both until a knee injury forced me off the field my junior year of high school. It was then I developed my love of making mock trades and free agent signings. Because of all the free time I had, I memorized a lot of baseball statistics, and that is where I got my nickname “Stats” from.

I grew up as a Braves fan, but it wasn’t until this time where I truly started following them hard. My favorite Braves player of all time is Brian McCann. I loved B-Mac because I was a little league catcher and admired his consistency at the plate. My favorite player on this current Braves team is Nick Markakis. He has always been a consistent player his whole career, although being very overlooked. He doesn’t excel in just one area; he works hard everyday and has a simple approach at the plate. You always know what you’re going to get from him.

I have always wanted to pursue a career in sports whether its working in the front office or covering the game as a journalist. I knew from the beginning that this opportunity to cover the Braves for Atlanta Sports Page was something that I could not pass on.
