Falcons

A case for Devin White with pick #14

Now I know that every Falcons fan wants us to take an DE, DL, or a G at 14 overall; but Devin White is too good of a fit to pass up. Not only is he an LSU LB which we all know DQ loves, but he also has the sideline to sideline speed that fits the defense’s game plan. In the highlight reel below, he is labeled as “The Fastest Linebacker in the Country.

If you think this tape doesn’t rev up Quinn’s motor, I don’t think you know Atlanta’s Head Coach very well. Adding White, with Jones, Campbell, Foye, and Duke (Also Kwon Alexander in my Linebacker fantasies) would have us set at the LB positions for years to come.

With the recent cuts of Alford, Reed, Bryant, and most likely a Vic Beasley restructure; there should be some extra Free Agent spending money, post-Julio/Jarrett extensions. There is speculation about having enough Cap Space for a monster Edge Rusher like Lawrence (who had me drooling all last year), Clark (who has ties with Quinn), or Graham (a veteran pass rusher). Falcons twitter has also stirred up the idea of DT Gerald McCoy following Koetter to the Falcons if he is cut.

Pickups of this caliber would allow Atlanta to take the best player available at the 14th pick. That player may in fact be White. Deion Jones, Kwon Alexander (Atlanta’s dream pickup), White and Duke would be the best LSU LB combo in NFL history. Add in a very underrated and underappreciated Campbell, plus the young but talented Oluokun and we have one of the best LB groups in the NFL. Not to mention depth that was clearly needed when the injury bug hit last year.

This is roughly how I imagine the rest of the draft going, if the Falcons were to take Devin White in the first round. We still get Ferguson and Jackson to rush the passer in the 2nd and 4th.  Add in some meat in the trenches to protect Ryan in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. A couple DTs late to backup Jarrett, Crawford, McClain, Senat, and McCoy (fingers crossed). Finally, Hooker to round out the defensive backfield and give this Iowa man (who happens to be an Iowa State fan) a home state kid to root for.

Side Note: Trading Vic Beasley and a 5th to the Raiders for the 24th or 27th pick could be a stellar move to push the Falcons over the edge by allowing TD and DQ to have 2 first round picks.

What do you think Falcon fans? Am I crazy, spot on or somewhere in between? Let’s hear your thoughts on Devin White or who y’all think we should take instead!
